Bookmark with caldendar for 1992 on reverse for Books n' Brains bookshop which operated at 201 Coogee Bay Road during the 1980s and 1990s. Choy's Chinese Restaurant at 133 Belmore Road Randwick opened in 1976 by Bill Choy and will close in mid-May 2024 after 48 years of business. It became a local institution for its Cantonese sytle cusiane attracting lunch guests, families and university stutdents with it extensive menu and reasonable prices. The Clovelly Returned Services League (RSL) and Air Force Club (AFC) used to occupy the former movie theatre at 263-269 Clovelly Road, Clovelly The Coogee Sports Club used to operate from the building at 29-31 Alfreda Street, Coogee 200 Arden Street, Coogee Also features ads from Jack Lopatas Atlantic Service State of 8 Perouse Road Randwick, Hancock's Hardware Store, 153 Alison Road Randwick, Dophin Motors of 123 Dolphin Street Coogee, and Coogee Builders' Supply of 6 Havelock Avenue, Coogee. This 40 room Motel with swimming pool was located at 183 Cogee Bay Road (now occupied by the Adina Apartments) from c1965 to c1993 Coogee Minnows is Australia’s longest continually running Junior Surf Life Saving Club, formed around 1963 for children from 5 to 13 and aims to give them a base in lifesaving skills and competition in beach activities. Processing laboratories located in the Coffs Harbour region of NSW, includes protective sleeve for negatives Falk Studios was established by Melbourne-born photographer H. Walter Barnett in George Street, Sydney in 1885. Barnett started his career in Stewart's portrait studio in Melbourne, opened his own rooms in Hobart and worked in the USA and London before returning to Sydney to set up his business. In 1888 he opened a second Sydney studio, in 164-6 Pitt Street, and in 1895 Falk Studios opened in Melbourne, managed by Barnett's sister Phoebe and brother Charles. Barnett moved to London to set up a studio in 1898, but Falk Studios continued to operate into the late 1930s. From the 1930s through to the early 1960s, commercial photographers would station themselves in busy Sydney city streets and snap photographs of passerbys in the hope that the subjects would be willing to buy a copy. Anyone who showed an interest in the work of these "street photographers" would be given a card to identify the photograph so that they could be purchased later at the photographer's place of business. These small studios tended to be clustered around the central city shopping arcades such as The Strand and Her Majesty's Aracade. A competitor to the American firm, Kodak, some people saw as being a superior brand because it was British. Mark Foy's Limited or Mark Foy's was a department store in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, founded by Francis Foy and his brother Mark Foy. The department store was named after their father, Mark Foy (senior) and traded between 1885 and 1980. COMMERCIAL HISTORY Farmers' was a drapery business established in 1839 by Joseph and Caroline Farmer which became a retail empire and social institution and major department store. Located initially opposite the Victoria Theatre in Pitt Street, it expanded into a purpose built department store further south on Pitt Street in 1874. In 1960 Farmer and Co was acquired by the Myer Emporium Ltd. In 1976 the name of the store was changed to Myer. In April 1983 Grace Bros acquired the eleven Myer NSW stores, which became known as Grace Bros. Then in June 1983 Myer acquired Grace Bros. Holdings Ltd, the eleven stores retained their Grace Bros identity. The Rural Bank of New South Wales was founded in 1933 by the State Government of New South Wales. Prior to 1982, a Branch of the Rural Bank operated from the three-storey commercial/residential building at 230 Coogee Bay Road, Coogee. In 1982 its was renamed State Bank of NSW, taken over by Colonial finance company as Colonial State Bank in 1992 and finally incorporated into the Commonwealth Bank in 2000. Bankcard was a shared brand credit card issued by financial institutions in Australia and New Zealand between 1974 and 2006. It was a specialist in ladies apparel, footwear and household and furnishing drapery. The store was at 350-356 Pitt Street at the corner of Liverpool Street, Sydney. Advert from Stamina Clothing Company founded by Eric Hammil Gifford. It's mission was to provide school uniforms and every day quality work wear at a price attainable by the common man. The company trademark was a flying horse (Pegasus). Its advertising was focused on proud, masculine and athletic symbolism. Young customers were given collector cards, small wallets, and illustrated coloured booklets to encourage brand loyality. The company evenutally part of the Australian Woollen Mills business. The Bank of New South Wales was established in 1817 in Sydney. During the mid-20th century, it was branded as "The Wales". In October 1982, the Bank of New South Wales merged with the Commercial Bank of Australia, taking on the new name, with new branding, of Westpac Banking Corporation. A branch of Bank of New South Wales (WESTPAC) was located on the corner of Vicar Street and Coogee Bay Road for many decades, temporarily relocatd to a shopfront at 235 Coogee Bay Road, and finally closed in around 2021. Australia Square Tower is an office and retail complex in the central business district of Sydney at 264 George Street, noted for its cirucular shape. It was completed in 1967 and designed by Harry Seidler. At 170 metres, 50 stories tall, it was considered to be Australia's first "skyscraper" ( a building which exceeds 150 metres tall as desginated by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat). The visit of the United States' Great White Fleet to Sydney in 1908 caused great excitement and the celebrations included processions and displays. Country fire brigades take part in this view. Many saw the visit of the fleet as being a manifestation of the bonds holding the "white" Anglo-Saxon people together and of their "greatness". The Texas Tavern was a hotel and bar in Kings Cross owned by the colourful character Bernie Houghton, which was a popular night time venue from the R&R days of the 1960s until it closed. TRANSPORT
Ansett was an Australian domestic airline company founded by Reg Ansett in 1935 and that flew domestically and later on international routes until it folded in 2001 Small booklet produced by New South Wales Department of Transport in 1938 with road rules and road safety tips with forward by Lieut-Colonel Micharel Bruxner, Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport. Shipping tag for tourist class from the American Export Lines passenger ship to Europe MV Manunda was an Australian registered and crewed passenger ship which was launched in 1928, and converted to a hospital ship in 1940. During the war Manunda saw service in both the Middle East and Pacific Campaigns, specifically New Guinea. She resumed her passenger duties after the war, before being sold to a Japanese company and finally broken up in 1957. The Vickers Viscount was British medium-range turboprop airliner first flown in 1948 by Vickers-Armstrongs and entered service in 1953 and was the first turboprop-powered airliner. Around 30 Viscounts were operated by four domestic airlines in Australia and the RAAF from 1954 until the final service in 1970. Norfolk Jet Express was established in May 1997 by Norfolk Island resident and businessman Gregg Prechelt and ceased operations on 07 Jun 2005 after voluntary liquidation. At liquidation it had one Fokker 100 aircraft with services to Norfolk Island, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. OTHER

Coogee Media photographed these people dressing up as wenches and red coats at the Macquarie Watchtower. Aboriginies and their supporters gathered at La Perouse on 18 January as a demonstration to counter the celebratory nature of the re-enactment entry of the First Fleet into Botany Bay. This four page leaflet advertising "patriotic" function to celebrate Empire Day 1931 in Sydney to "united to defeat the enemies of the Empire". The organisation's membership was open only to "Australian citizens of British or Irish birth or descent". Sepia toned photograph showing General Allenby with allied troops entering Jerusalem 11 December 1917 Postcard size B&W photograph of aviator Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith with the printed annotation: "Thankyou for helping! C.Kingsford-Smith". Kingsford-Smith handed these out to those who helped him and his crew (such as pushing his aircraft) during barnstorming visits to New South Wales rural areas in the early 1930s
